So, if you're here you may be aware of the Mix Tape Shuffles my friend Marisa and I have posted during the past several months. You may have listened along or posted your own mix and played along! But even if you haven't, you can start now. Jump in with both feet and embrace the guilty pleasure that is the mix tape.
Musical guilty pleasures can be hard to define. It could be the new pop music anthems by Taylor Swift (Shake it Off) and Meghan Trainor (All About that Bass) which are currently in heavy rotation in my musicverse. But there is so much more to it. Like potato chips, when it comes to guilty pleasures, I find it hard to limit myself. So I had to curate my list by genre:
Klassy with a "K" songs
Songs featuring a foreign language
Strong Women, Questionable Songs
Bootylicious (Destiny's Child). My Humps (Black Eyed Peas). Holla Back Girl (Gwen Stefani). La Isla Bonita (Madonna). All of these songs, sung by women I respect for their abilities and smart lyrics. But here, well, not their best. But still I keep them around.
Novelty SongsI'm talking about you, Goodbye, Earl (Dixie Chicks)! And no, I didn't forget you, Hot Rod Lincoln (Commander Cody) or you, Baby Got Back (Sir MixALot). I love you all, but I don't always feel good about it.
Really Bad Remakes
The Anger Collection
You want to play along? Post your guilty pleasure playlist (or a link to it) in the comments below. And then stay tuned for more musical fun this month of ROCKTOBER (you didn't think I forgot already, did you)!
