Can I be honest? I loved the Music Mamas. Loved all it stood for, all the contributors and all the music. Still do. Cheers to you, ladies. One of the reasons I loved this endeavor was what Ri (our Queen Bee, if you will) would refer to as the "Friday Fiver."
Now, the Fiver was awesome for many reasons. For one, it was a blind collection of songs (five—go figure) that were posted for listening and judgement. Then on Sunday, came the Scoop, which was all the details on all the songs from Friday, be they good, bad or indifferent. Sometimes the songs were new and undiscovered, sometimes old, deep cuts. Either way, It was always fun. And by fun I mean a hella lot of work. When Ri had to take a step back for various reasons (did I mention the hella amounts of work?), I endeavored to keep the Fivers going, and I did for a while. But I also fizzled out. I think you know why.
Oh, the sadness. I can't help but long for a Fiver come Friday. So, to that end, seeing how today is Friday and in this glorious month of Rocktober, I decree that there needs to be included a Fiver. In a fashion. Instead of the blind playlist of awesome, I will give you five songs on a theme. And today, I chose the theme of Faith.
I am currently unchurched and my faith is complicated. But it's also unwavering. I came up with this idea while running this morning in the gorgeous, windy, cool October sunshine. Since then my day has degraded. And I realized that I hadn't posted my Faith songs yet, but since it was still Friday? Still time.
So here goes; five songs that hit on the topic of faith for me.
- Faith (George Michael)
- You Want It, You Got It (Rancid)
- I Would Die 4 U (Prince & the Revolution)
- You Can't Always Get What You Want (The Rolling Stones)
- Redemption Song (Bob Marley)
And, not for nothing, but I keep seeing all this news about Mercury being in retrograde and I figure I could use all the faith I can get.
