Campfire Ladies: Mix Tape Shuffle

Here's the thing with mix tapes versus playlists: mixtapes are meant to be listened to from end to end. There is no shuffle in a mix tape.

The other day I had this epiphany while listening to Pink Floyd's "The Wall"—can you even imagine putting that CD on shuffle?

I'll give you a moment to compose yourself.

The answer is no. You can't You lose context and reference and it sounds like just a bunch of random crap. Now, there is a time for random crap; but a mix tape is meant to be listened to from start to finish. Marisa and I have been doing this for a few months now, and this month, we are sharing our mix tapes to listen to around a campfire.

Now, I've listened to my fair share of awesome songs around a campfire, but the one playlist that sticks, the one that I return to over and over again, is from a 70s compilation CD I made a few years back. It's fun, a little unexpected, and meant to be listened to from start to finish.

Because the thing about a mix tape is that you start to depend on those songs. When you hear the first one, you want to hear the second one, and so on.

So, I give you my mix tape for a campfire.

  1. I am ignorant....I never knew mix tapes were meant to be listened to from beginning to end (kind of like the concept album, no?), but I now stand corrected. And unsure how to properly build one from here on out....but I'll figure it out!

I definitely want to participate in the future. Whether I get motivated enough to do it remains to be seen, but I love the idea!
