Mix Tape Shuffle: Musical Resolutions

It's time to share another Mix Tape Shuffle! This time, in honor of January, we're hitting on the resolutions idea. Because you know it's totally a thing in January! So along with my ever awesome partner in mix tape shuffles Marisa, we've also railroaded encouraged our friends Maria, Katy and Kim into joining us in this musical endeavor. And we sure hope you play along.

So, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, let me sum it up for you: this is a thing we do where we share our thoughts on music based (sometimes very loosely) around a theme.

And there's even a linky.

Squee!

So, here goes the mix tape to kick off 2015: the Musical Resolutions Edition.

Hmm. Well, I'm not sure if I really make resolutions so much anymore, but I do have ideas of what I need to get done in the upcoming year. Whatever, yeah, so I guess that means I do have resolutions.

But I've been listening to podcasts lately. I got completely hooked. This is what a midlife crisis sounds like: a whole lotta NPR. I listened to music most often when I'm driving or running but podcasts when I walk. Since I've been doing more walking than running, it's been more podcasts. And then when I don't finish it over the walk, I finish it in the car. Talk radio took over my life, so much so that I realized today that for the past month I've listened to like three songs in entirety. My 10-year-old daughter even commandeered my iPod and when she did, she played KONGOS ("Come With Me Now"), which we used to listen to frequently, loudly and happily.

She totally snapped me out of that no music funk.

So here are the songs that I will listen to to find my motivation this month.

Where is your motivation?

[AWESOME PLAYLIST REDACTED BY POWERS THAT BE]

So now, you should totally play along. What music is motivating you to meet your goals this year? I'd totally love to know. And if I did all the code correctly, you should see the link-up right below this short paragraph, where you can join up with your own mix tape. And you totally should. Maybe make it a resolution.

  1. One of the reasons we are friends is because you put The Cure and Lil' Jon on the same playlist.

  2. I tend to listen to audiobooks instead of music. It's almost like NPR sometimes.

I'm hoping my motivation kicks in. I feel like I've got so much to get done and the month is almost over. Yes, I realize it's only the 8th... but the list is REALLY long.

    1. I did audiobooks for a long time but sometimes I need to go back to re-read a part and that was just too hard to do with an audiobook. And I like to read before bed but listening to audiobooks before bed just made me go to sleep & have weird dreams!

  3. Most upbeat playlist ever! I see a bunch I wish I'd thought to put on mine, since I love Lil Jon and The Prodigy. Especially The Prodigy! I'm LOL-ing at your "railroaded" comment. Like I can stay away from a music link-up! Happy New Year, and best of luck on your motivation!

    1. Kim, that's what I thought of everyone else's list—so many songs that I already love and should have used! I was going for upbeat and inspirational. I think we need to start a podcast hosted by the 5 of us!

  4. How completely fun!! Oh man, how the heck have I missed this so far?? Ok, I haven't prepared a post to link up but will happily say that my favorite running chapter has three of those songs on it, and I listen to them a LOT. Have not experimented with podcasts yet but want to. Mostly it's a bandwidth obstacle out here at the W. Such fun!! So for podcasts, have you listened to the very popular Serial??

    1. Marie, we are posting every month so I hope you play along! I have listened to the Serial podcast--and all the other podcasts about it. It's a total rabbit hole. I download them into my iTunes and then listen to them on the go instead of streaming them, which works great!
