When I was a kid, every 4th of July meant lots of red, white and blue. Parades, sparklers, ice cream in a little plastic cup eaten with a little wooden paddle, and a cookout at our house, with brats, roasted corn, baked beans, potato salad, carrot salad, glorified rice and more dishes than I can name.
July 4 is my mom's birthday and I just thought the whole town was celebrating with us, since I found my mom to be quite spectacular.
Young me wouldn't be surprised at all to find older me marching in a parade today, sporting this shirt and celebrating my mom's 80th birthday with about 30 family members.
Today the whole town really will be celebrating with us.
